From the age of ten when my mother taught me to sew, I've always enjoyed crafts, especially sewing, crocheting and needlepoint. My bumper sticker should read: Warning! This car stops at all fabric and yarn shops!  I love working with fibers. Although I used to make many of my own clothes, now I'm more involved in making crocheted items (hats, scarves, baskets, afghans and Snuggles).
As a creative outlet, writing became my focus during our years of living on our trawler Summer School.
The limitations of space precluded the extent of my previous favorite creative activities of sewing and needlecrafts. (Although we did find room for my sewing machine, it was used primarily for boat projects such as fender covers and interior decor and necessary mending.) Of course, life on the boat provided a wealth of possible writing subjects.
I like taking snapshots to record our activities and help jog our terrible memories! It certainly helps to have a photographic record to accompany our journals. Since we got a digital camera, I really love to take pictures -- I don't have to worry about running out of film!  We've added some decorations to our home with enlargements of some of my photos. I'm particularly focussing (pun intended!) on close-ups of plant life.
